GROUP

What is Group?

I run interpersonal process groups that provide a supportive and challenging environment for members to better understand their relationship and communication patterns. Groups allow for a unique therapeutic experience wherein  members are encouraged to take risks as they learn how to engage in authentic, meaningful connection. By creating a space safe enough to be vulnerable, members are encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings as they occur -- aka: a focus on the "here and now."

Who is Group for?

Group is for anyone wanting to better understand their relationship with themselves and their relationships with others. In group, you have an opportunity to learn how to express and share your feelings with and towards others. Group can be an effective treatment approach on its own, and it can also be a great addition to individual work.

My Approach

Utilizing a combination of both relational and modern analytic approaches, I focus on building relationships via emotionally progressive communication.

Members are instructed to put all of their thoughts, feelings, and impulses into words (as opposed to acting on them). Together, we are curious about the resistances to connection that may arise in group.

I am intentional about gathering members. At least three individual sessions are required before joining group. It is important that each potential member is not only the right fit for the group, but that the group is also the right fit for them.

Topics & Focus

Each group is unique. Members determine what the group talks about. Examples of topics groups have explored:

  • Difficulty finding or sustaining relationships
  • Perfectionism, self-criticism, shame
  • Loneliness or isolation
  • Sense of disconnection from one's inner emotional world
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Grief
  • LGBTQIA+ concerns
  • Identity struggles
  • Sexual concerns & intimacy issues
  • Difficulty managing or accessing anger
